It’s going down guys. Winter Cup is about to reach its climax. As usual for each final episodes, my brief impressions for the whole anime are as follows:
I actually enjoyed this anime pretty much. I like the tension buildup, the sense of frustration of losing the match and whatnot. What I don’t really like is the time system, 1 second in real time is equivalent to 10-15 seconds in this series lmao! In other words, they dragged the final minutes of the match too much, filling with monologues and unnecessary dialogues. I wished they focused on that during timeouts.
Also, the asspulls are real this time. Those godlike superpower skills are so ridiculous, yet the scoring opportunities are too much of a coincidence. The match became unrealistic with all those BS. I missed the good old season 1 but over the past episodes & chapters, it seems the basketball (based on this series) has been evolved into a whole new level, in which is impossible for us to get used to it in reality.
Thumbs up for Seirin’s teamwork, eventhough a bit cheesy about the “nakama rules the day” thingy. Gotta love Akashi got rekt so bad because for me, it was a satisfying experience lol. +1 for the character development too, it even has a dedicated flashback arc specifically about GoM’s backstory, and I enjoyed it.
Other things I wanna talk about but not so much:
- Animation: more of the same, plenty of still images in some scenes, but gotta love the sudden leap of quality in the final 3 episodes.
- Musics: most of the tracks from season 2 are reused, but some of new tunes are welcoming.
Final verdict, and I wanna mention that this is for the whole series, including the previous 2 seasons:
- Story (7.5/10)
- Characters (7.5/10)
- Animation, Art & Design (7.7/10)
- Music/Audio (8.5/10)
- Enjoyment (8.0/10)
- Overall (7.84/10)
I still prefer Slam Dunk as the best basketball-themed series of all time.
