However, that’s not the actual ending though. Unfortunately, it ends with a cliffhanger. Meaning? Another season? Yes, it is. But… is it really deserves for another season?
The story was kinda alright at most parts. It tried to replicate “Attack on Titan” kinda feel, you know where humans go fight against giant bizarre creature in order to save humanity. The same thing applies to this anime, only difference is they fight against the mutated roaches called Terraformars. For what purpose? To find cure & answers behind the mystery of certain deadly virus, kinda forgot the name already but whatever. Like I said previously, story itself was alright. The characters’ backstories were also much welcoming but when it comes to interruptions during the fight scenes, don’t you find it kinda distracting? On top of that, there’s too much talking between the fights. It’s kinda like Dragon Ball where between fights, there was a long pause just to kill some screentime. But still, it was a classic anime. This one just got me bored pretty fast while watching it. Also, this series was pretty smart to torture your emotions. Why? Still remember during the time when something exciting was about to happen in each episode, you got hyped up right? But this anime said “Nope!”. It happened the opposite way.
Animation is quite okay but I hate those crazy filters they put in this anime. They might try to make it to replicate a film noir style but using it too much makes the video much more grainy. The scenery are less colorful & unappealing. The lighting was pretty dark too especially at Mars scenes. Maybe it was because of the video rendering or animation issue but still, I could see what was going on the screen but barely. Character designs are okay for the most part but…
…speaking of the characters, I really like the special ability that each of them had. Even the narrator himself explain these abilities in an elaborate way which is kinda cool to me. It’s like X-Men but with insects & bugs (even sea creatures too). Above all of them, Adolf is my favorite one. He has that devastating electrical shocks that could fry up many things surrounding him. Also, his backstory are pretty good too. Musics sounds good but I just noticed that there were not many tracks made for this anime.
In conclusion, all I can say is it’s a decent adaptation. The plot pacing might have some flaws including the animation, but despite all that it’s still watchable. The ridiculous amount of censoring for Ep 1-3 made this adaptation unwatchable at first, but after Crunchyroll addressed the issue by providing a clean, uncensored version of those episodes, my verdict had been changed & I’m glad I didn’t stop watching this. Good anime but it’s a mixed bag. Back to my earlier question; is it really deserves a second season? Yes, but please fix the plot pacing issues.
