The brief & honest review is as follows:
- Story (5.0/10)
- Animation, Art & Design (6.0/10)
- Music/Audio (9.0/10)
- Overall (5.2/10)
This is another one of the terrible anime adaptations based on video games. This is just like Devil Survivor 2 anime series. The story is so confusing especially for those who are new to the BlazBlue universe. I think this is just a marketing plea to make people go buy the game themselves in order to understand more about the whole plot. Yeah, don’t waste you time to watch this, it’s better if you play the game instead. I also couldn’t believe the Calamity Trigger plot being cramped into just 2 episodes with no background introduction whatsoever? That was a laughable adaptation indeed… Oh, don’t forget about the animation too. It was pretty bad that most of the fighting scenes were pretty lame. There were some overwhelming sound effects but they weren’t serious about animating the scenes. Do you still remember about me mentioning Tsubaki’s body proportion that was a bit off? That’s one of the flaws in animation too.
The one and only thing that I really like about this adaptation was the music itself. The game series’ composer Daisuke Ishiwatari reprises his role for the anime & it was nice to hear the re-arranged version of most of the musics that played in the game. So Kudos to him.
In a nutshell, this might not be one of the worst anime adaptation ever made but judging by the looks of it especially in terms of storyline & animation, it’s unbearable. If someone wanted to adapt Chronophantasma plot, please don’t let Hoods Entertainment continue their job later but at least just give it to the worthy ones like Production I.G for example simply because they made the cutscenes for Chronophantasma game. And Commie fansub quality sucks too. Too much swear words that the characters wouldn’t say. Well, maybe I should include fansub quality ratings for my upcoming reviews though.
